Rabbi Stern

Congregation Beth El is fortunate to have Rabbi Rebekah Stern as our newest clergy member. Rabbi Stern says it’s “thrilling to be back in the place where my Judaism began and to help others find their way on their Jewish journeys.”

She adds that “the opportunity to contribute to [Beth El], which was instrumental to my Jewishness, is a joy and an honor.” Rabbi Stern works with Rabbi Kahn in providing rabbinic support to our community, including leading Shabbat and holiday services and life cycle events, teaching and supporting our members with pastoral care needs. She also works closely with all of our youth, family and teen programs, especially BENS, Chug Mishpacha, Makom, YALA and CKT, and brings her skills as a songleader to many of these areas in our community. Rabbi Stern became bat mitzvah at Beth El, and grew up in many of the programs with which she now works, including BENS and CKT.

Rabbi Stern attended rabbinical school at the Los Angeles campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR). While there, Rabbi Stern also earned Master’s degrees in Hebrew Letters and in Jewish Education. During her final year in rabbinical school, she served as rabbinic intern at Peninsula Temple Sholom (PTS) in Burlingame. She stayed on at PTS for three additional years, serving as Assistant Rabbi.

In recent years Rabbi Stern has gotten more involved in Jewish justice efforts. She serves as a member of the Leadership Team of Reform CA and has been working to strengthen our many and various Beth El community's tikkun olam initiatives.

Rabbi Stern is married to Sean Holcombe, and they have two children, Leora and Jonathan.
