Welcome to Beth El

Katherine Haynes Sanstad, Immediate Past President

Katherine, husband Alan, and sons Isaac, 15, and Aaron, 10, have been part of the Beth El community since 2001. The children are Kee Tov regulars and have been educated in the Nursery (Aaron) and Religious Schools, and Isaac celebrated becoming Bar Mitzvah at Beth El. Katherine has served on the Board as the Religious School Committee Chair (2003), First-Vice President (2005-2007), chair of the Rabbi Search Committee (2005-2007), and President (2007-2009). Having earned her MBA in non-profit management, Katherine is the Regional Executive Director of Diversity for Northern California Kaiser Permanente, which is dedicated to providing high quality health care to an increasingly diverse membership. She brings to the Board over 25 years of experience in not-for-profit organization marketing, strategy, research and organizational development.

Beth El has been a Jewish home to Katherine and her family and she serves Beth El to ensure that it is a vibrant Jewish home now, and for the families of the future. She seeks to play a part in ensuring that Beth El is an essential part of its members’ lives and of the Bay Area Jewish Community. For fun, Katherine reads novels, goes to the movies, and hangs out with family and friends. She hopes to one day pick up her cello again after a hiatus of more than 20 years.
