serving those in need:
monthly homeless meal
The Homeless Meal project is an ongoing focus of our Congregation. Beth El is known among the poor throughout the Bay Area as the "chicken church" or "chicken shack". We provide a hot chicken dinner to the hungry
people on the third Sunday of each month serving about 200 people each month.
You can participate in the Homeless Meal by helping to cook or serve the meal. Children under 8 years old should have an adult sharing the job with them. Good jobs for children are banana, bread and dessert serving jobs. Cooking shifts start at noon, we serve tea at 3:15 and the meal at 4:30 . Please sign up at this link.
You can also participate by donating money to the Homeless Meal through the Beth El Office or by donate clothing, blankets, toiletries by leaving them in the red barrel in the classroom wing. The meal receives no money from the synagogue budget. Your donations and one grant from the Stern Family Fund support the meal.
If you want more information about the program you can send an email through the web site.
