Central Europe trip – Spring 2018

Date:
April 27, 2018 - 9:00am to May 10, 2018 - 6:00pm
Body:
We are excited to announce a Beth El trip to Central Europe – with stops in Berlin, Prague, Krakow, Lublin and Warsaw – and an optional extension to Budapest – for Spring 2018. Led by Rabbi Yoel Kahn and guided by Jewish genealogist Robinn Magid, we will explore the millennium-long history of the center of the Ashkenazi Jewish world, from shtetl life to modernity, from destruction to contemporary renewal. ArzaWorld tours, the official travel agency of the Reform movement, will run the tour. Please contact Talia at talia@bethelberkeley.org and check the webiste for more information.

Dates

We have pushed back the start date so as not to conflict with Israel’s 70th Independence Day. The main trip starts in Prague on Friday, April 27 (you will need to depart from the Bay Area on April 26).

Prices

Indicated prices are based on minimum participation numbers. Without the indicated minimum number of participants, the pre-and post-trip extensions will not happen. Please noet that all these prices are land-only; the trip price does not include transportation between the extensions and Prague/Warsaw, respectively. (Arzaworld Travel will, of course, be glad to make these arrangements for you.)

Lithuania

Several people have expressed interest in traveling to Lithuania. We are working on a pre-trip add-on to Lithuania and this page will be updated to include this information shortly.

Registration/deposits

A dedicated trip website will be set up with registration information, deadlines, etc.

FAQs:

Is there a Maximum Number of Participants?

Yes, there is. Please sign up early (as soon as registration is available!).

Do I have to do everything?

As long as you are on the bus when its time to leave for the next city, you can opt out of any activity, destination or program. Several people specifically said that they do not want to visit Auschwitz; Robinn will lead an alternative excursion to visit other Jewish sites that day.

Can non-members come?
Please hold off on inviting non-Beth El friends until we have a sense of how many Beth El members wish to sign up; at some point (over the summer) we will open the trip up to others if space permits.

Can I stay longer?
Of course! Rabbi Raj would be delighted to welcome you for Shabbat in Budapest and/or Arzaworld’s help desk is glad to arrange accommodations/tours for the next part of your travel adventure.

Where are the itineraries?
