How to Chant Torah Class

May 20, 2017 - 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Have you ever wondered how Torah chanters know what melodies to use and where to start and stop? Have you been intrigued by the Torah's more fabulous dots and squiggles? These symbols are called taamei hamikra or "trope," and they give us the Torah's melodies, as well as punctuation and pronunciation. The system of chanting Torah is ancient, beautiful totally learnable.

No musical experience or previous familiarity is required; adults and teens of all backgrounds are welcome! The only requirement is a basic ability to sound out Hebrew. Join Rabbi Zellman and fellow community members to learn how to do this mitzvah and have a whole lot of fun.

This class will meet on the following dates: Saturdays April 1, 8, 22, 29; May 6, 13, 20, 27 1:30–3:30 pm
