List of Special Funds

Annual Appeal:

Donations to the Annual Appeal enable us to provide the diversity and quality of programs we cherish, and ensure that Beth El remains welcoming to all who wish to join us.

General Fund:

Donations to the fund are used to support the on-going programs, activities and services of the congregation.

Allan & Tybil Kahn Scholar in Residence Memorial Fund:

Created in honor of Rabbi Yoel Kahn’s parents, the fund supports Congregation Beth El’s Scholar in Residence program.

B'nei Mitzvah Tzedakah:

Donations are made by B’nei Mitzvah families and others to honor the children of each B’nei Mitzvah class by collecting funds to be donated to a single charity selected by the class. 

David Sol Cotton Memorial Fund:

Donations to the fund honor David Sol Cotton, of blessed memory, beloved son of Fred and Anita Cotton.

Homeless Meal Program:

Donations to the fund are used to support Beth El’s monthly homeless meal program.

Library Funds:

Aaron Plishner Children’s Library Fund:

Donations to the fund, named in memory of a Beth El teenager, are allocated by the Library Committee and used to purchase children’s books for the Beth El library.
 

Rabbi Vida Adult Library Fund:

Donations to the fund, named in memory of Rabbi Vida, used to purchase books for adults who utilize the Beth El library.
 

Marian Magid Memorial Fund:  

This fund was established in memory of Past President and long time Beth El leader Marian Magid.  Donations honor Marian’s passionate commitment to our beautiful congregational home on Oxford Street.

Mitzvah Corps Fund:

Donations to the fund are used to support the Mitzvah Corps’ mission: providing meals and rides to congregants who are ill or in need.   

Music Fund:

Donations are used to support music programming at Beth El.

Nursery School Fund:

Donations to this fund support BENS (Beth El Nursery School).

Rabbis' Discretionary Fund:

Donations to the fund are allocated by the synagogue’s rabbis for charitable or congregational purposes. Donors frequently contribute to this fund in appreciation of services the rabbis have performed, such as officiating at a wedding or funeral, or assisting with bar/bat mitzvah training.

Rabbi Emeritus Ferenc Raj’s Discretionary Fund:

Donations to the fund are allocated by Rabbi Emeritus Raj for charitable or congregational purposes.

Social Action Fund:

Donations to the fund support efforts to live out one of our congregation's core values — tikkun olam, repair of the world — by providing direct service for and engaging in advocacy around justice issues in our wider community, including immigration, climate change, homelessness, gun violence prevention, criminal justice reform, and more.

Youth and Family Education Fund:

Donations to the fund support YAFE (Youth & Family Education) at Beth El, including Kadima, Makom, YALA, and Chug Mishpacha programs.

Historic Congregational Funds – We are pleased to recognize all of the funds that have helped to sustain Congregation Beth El through the years, and are grateful to the individuals, families and committees who established them.
