Costume Ideas:
Which Jewish Hero will You Be on February 25?

There are so many Jewish heroes, it’s hard to know where to start. There are biblical heroes like Miraim and Moses. There are historical leaders of Israel like David Ben Gurion and Golda Meir. Actors? Of course! Just Google “Jewish Actors” and you’ll get everyone from Tiffany Hadish to Paul Newman. There are many contemporary Jewish heroes, like Rabbi Alysa Stanton, the first African American female reform rabbi ordained in the United States. Who will you be?

Here are just a few ideas, and related costumes, just to get you thinking. We look forward to seeing what you come up with for your Jewish Hero attire!

King David

The young shepherd who gains fame by slaying Goliath. Founder of the House of David Dynasty that ruled Judea for centuries. He greatly expanded the boundaries of the Jewish Kingdom. Traditionally, the authorship of the Book of Psalms is attributed to him.
Dress up - king crown, cape, use Magen David in your design

Albert Einstein

Recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. One of the greatest physicists of all time. Sloppy dresser. Here’s how to pull off the costume: wear a pair of old, baggy chinos to bed for three straight days; do not iron. Birkenstocks, with socks (his favorite). Pipe. Chalk in hand. Stick your tongue out. Einstein wig and mustache on Amazon: $16.99. Same costume can be repurposed to dress up as Mark Twain.

Sergey Brin

Mathematician and computer scientist. Founder of Google. Financially comfortable. Here’s what to do for the perfect Sergey Brin costume: Well-tailored suit. Short-trim beard. “Google” T-shirt. Hold a sheath of paper titled “Employee Layoff List.” Wear a nametag that says “I am Sergey Brin.”

Dana International

One of Israel’s most successful singers. Won the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest with her song, “Diva”. First transgender singer to participate in, and win, this world-wide mega-contest. Here’s how to pull off Dana:  Beautiful evening gown with feathered sleeves; long, dark wig; microphone in hand; preloaded recording of her famous song “Diva” on your cell phone, concealed in your pocket; then sing like you own the room. You got this girl!

Rosa Luxemburg

A socialist leader and revolutionary who contributed greatly to the betterment of working conditions for laborers and to the elimination of child slavery. Costume: turn-of-the-century basics: long, off-white, conservative dress. Broad-brimmed hat. Hold sign that reads “Those who do not move, do not notice their chains."

Volunteer, Please!
Whether you’d like to put in a few hours preparing decorations, helping set up the auction, or tending bar for an hour, we do need some volunteers. Please sign up now! You will not regret being part of the volunteer team; it is a blast.
