Thursday, November 6th: Professor Deena Aranoff: Mother’s Milk
In her new book, Mother's Milk, Deena Aranoff raises up the household as a significant site in the making of Jewish culture. In this Beit Midrash session we will study a short selection of classical Jewish texts as they reveal the role of everyday life in history of the Jews and in the unfolding of revelation itself.
Deena Aranoff is the Faculty Director of the Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies at the
Graduate Theological Union (GTU). She is a beloved teacher of Torah and Talmud throughout
the Bay Area. In her teaching and writing, Deena combines a mastery of classical Jewish texts
with compassionate attention to human nature and its condition. She holds a Ph.D. from
Columbia University in the field of Jewish history.
